Welcome to the Russell Library, home to the Library’s superb collections of early-printed books, manuscripts and archives, and to its conservation department. The collections in the Russell Library offer a leading resource for academic research and teaching.
The magnificent reading room, soaring to fifty feet, with its hammer-beam roof, its bibliographical frieze and its serried shelves of leather- and vellum-bound books, was designed by Augustus Welby Pugin, and completed in 1861. It is named after Charles William Russell, president of St Patrick’s College, Maynooth (1857–1880).
The Library is located on the south campus, in St Mary’s quadrangle.
